Shawn started his hockey career locally before ascending to the WHL as a 1st round draft pick. Shawn would soon thereafter become a 1st round NHL draft pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2003. Before turning professional Shawn represented Team Canada on numerous occasions including two appearances in the World Junior U-20 Tournament where he collected a Gold and Silver medal. Shawn’s professional career lasted 10 years where he had the opportunity to play in the NHL, AHL and two of the top professional leagues in Europe. He managed to represent Canada on multiple occasions as a professional before deciding to step away from the game due to lingering injuries sustained over his career.
During the 2015-16 season Shawn was hired as the Assistant coach of the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the AJHL. After just one season in the coaching ranks, he was offered the opportunity to be the Assistant coach at one of the top College programs in Canada the Nait Ooks. Shawn has since taken on the role of head coach at OHA Edmonton.
During Shawn’s celebrated Junior and Professional career he had the opportunity to work, play and train alongside some of hockey’s most well-known coaches, strength coaches and players. As Shawn’s career was winding down, he took every opportunity to educate himself alongside the vast number of contacts and resources at his disposal to properly prepare himself for player development. This was to ensure he could provide a platform for young hockey players to soak in all the information he learned during his career.
